Huntingdon baseball misses out on NCAA Regional bid

Huntingdon baseball misses out on NCAA Regional bid

The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee released the field of teams chosen for the 2012 postseason on Monday. Despite winning 30 games and winning the Great South Athletic Conference championship, Huntingdon was not one of the 56 teams selected to play in a Regional.

The Hawks end the season with a 30-12 record.

“It’s disappointing for all of us,” Huntingdon athletic director Buzz Phillips said. “Head coach D.J. Conville and his staff prepared this team and these players worked hard to win 30 games against a challenging schedule.

“We’re proud of them for winning the conference championship. Unfortunately, when your conference doesn’t have an automatic qualifier into the playoffs, this can happen. That’s one of the many reasons we’re excited to be joining the USA South.

The Alabama Department of Public Health urges awareness of hepatitis during May

One in every 10 Americans is affected by some form of liver disease. The liver, the largest organ in the body after the skin, is essential for survival. If the liver is not working properly, a person can become very sick and can even die.

The Alabama Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urge the public to learn the risk factors of viral hepatitis. The month of May has been designated as Hepatitis Awareness Month, and May 19 is the first national observance of Hepatitis Testing Day.

The word "hepatitis" means inflammation of the liver. Toxins, certain drugs, some diseases, heavy alcohol use, and bacterial and viral infections can all cause hepatitis. Hepatitis is also the name of a family of viral infections that affect the liver.

Story Time at the Dadeville Public Library

Story Time at the Dadeville Public Library

Story Time at the Dadeville Public Library is this morning at 10:30 a.m.

It targets our most impressionable patrons - our children.  It aids in the development of a love for reading, enhances communication skills, sparks the imagination and creates lifelong library users.  This is a great way to introduce your little ones to the library , reading, and books.  Story Time lasts 30 - 45 minutes depending upon the children's attention span.  And it's ok if they tend to get a little rambunctious.  Story Time is supposed to be fun!  Books are chosen each week to help children explore the wonders of their imagination.  We try to incorporate songs and simple "make & take" projects on occasion.  Although these programs are geared toward preschoolers, everyone is welcome to attend.  Remember all children must be accompanied by an adult.  We look forward to seeing you here on Tuesday mornings, and bring a friend!
