Suspect identities released in connection with multi-county drug sting

TALLAPOOSA CO., AL (WSFA)- Police have released the identities of the seven people arrested earlier this month in connection with a four month long narcotics investigation that spanned four counties.

As part of this investigation, the ABC Statewide Drug Task Force, the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force, the Tallassee Police Department and the Auburn Police Department all conducted numerous hours of surveillance during a four month investigation leading up to the arrests.

Now, according to the Tallassee Police Department, Amanda Austin, Bobby Coates, Brittany Warren, Corey Breedlove, David Walden, Joseph Fannin, and Robert Faulk were all arrested after search warrants turned up approximately one pound of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $46,000 and around two pounds of marijuana with a $5,600 street value. 

Police believe additional arrests could be pending in connection with this case.

MONTGOMERY—U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Walter D. Givhan, a Troy University alumnus, told TROY graduates that education will help them deal with new challenges and demanding situations as they move forward with their careers.

Givhan delivered the keynote address to graduates during spring commencement for the Montgomery Campus on Monday, May 20, inside the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. Some 140 students took part in the 7 p.m. ceremony.

In all, 192 students earned undergraduate and graduate degrees this spring at the Montgomery Campus.

TALLAPOOSA CO., AL (WSFA)- Authorities say seven people have been arrested in connection with a four month long narcotics investigation that spanned four counties. 

The ABC Statewide Drug Task Force, the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force, the Tallassee Police Department and the Auburn Police Department all conducted numerous hours of surveillance during a four month investigation leading up to the arrests.

Search warrants resulted in the seizure of approximately one pound of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $46,000 and around two pounds of marijuana with a $5,600 street value. 

Seven people were arrested as part of this investigation. Police believe additional arrests are pending.

At this time the names of those arrested are being withheld due to the continuing investigation.

3.       A RESIDENT OF SEMPERFI LANE IN DADEVILLE, FILED A REPORT FOR HARASSMENT.

AL Dept. of Labor obtaining convictions for unemployment compensation fraud

Alabama Department of Labor Commissioner Tom Surtees announced today that the Department has successfully prosecuted several Alabamians for unemployment compensation fraud. The following individuals were charged with violating the Alabama Unemployment Compensation Law by making false statements in claims for benefits:

 Demetrius D. Barkley, of Birmingham, was tried in Jefferson County District Court on May 6, 2013. An investigation by Labor’s Benefit Payment Control Section determined that Barkley received a total of $4,059 in benefits to which he was not entitled.

Barkley pled guilty and was sentenced to six months in jail, which was suspended, and 24 months of unsupervised probation. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of benefits received illegally.

 Adron Turner, of Tuscaloosa, was tried in Tuscaloosa County District Court on May 1, 2013.

Camp Hill man charged with 8 counts in drug sting case

CAMP HILL, AL (WSFA) - Officers with the Camp Hill Police Department say they've arrested and charged a man with six counts of distribution of a controlled substance and two counts of possession with intent to distribute following an ongoing effort to aggressively target drug offenders.

Lee Karon Chislom was arrested following the execution of a warrant on May 14 at a Camp Hill home.

Authorities seized cash, drugs and a vehicle at the home. 

Authorities are asking that anyonwith information about criminal activity contact Lt. Nathan White at 256-896-4411.
