The Alabama Department of Education has released graduation rates for the 2011-2012 school year. The state of Alabama had a graduation rate of 75%. The total graduation rate for Alexander City Schools was 78% The graduation rate for individual city schools is as follows:

The Alabama Department of Education has released graduation rates for the 2011-2012 school year. The state of Alabama had a graduation rate of 75%. Tallapoosa County's total graduation rate was 79% The graduation rate for individual schools in the county is as follows: 
  • Dadeville High School - 78%
  • Horseshoe Bend High School - 87%
  • Reeltown High School - 93%

Odom named ABCA All-American; pitchers Lawler and Brown named All-Region

Odom named ABCA All-American; pitchers Lawler and Brown named All-Region

The accolades continue for the Huntingdon baseball team.
 
Coming off a second straight 30-win season and the program’s first appearance in a NCAA Regional, three Hawks were recently recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Junior catcher Joseph Odom was named second-team All-American and joined pitchers Neil Lawler and Craig Brown on the ABCA All-South Region teams.
 
Odom was named first-team All-South, Lawler was second-team All-South and Brown was third-team All-South. 
 
“All of these guys are deserving of the accolades they’ve received and each of them played a key role in our success this season,” Huntingdon head coach D.J. Conville said. “To be recognized with All-American and All-Region honors, it shows the kind of season that Odom turned in. He’s worked hard to achieve what he has. 
 
“Neil and Craig both had strong years and I’m tickled to see them recognized on the All-Region teams.

Troy University Alumni Association launches membership campaign

The Troy University Alumni Association has launched its annual “Membership in May” campaign, an effort to keep more alumni engaged with University as a part of the Association, according to Alumni Affairs Director Faith Ward.

The Association currently serves alumni through 52 chapters in the United States and two international chapters located in China and Russia, Ward said.

“In 2012, Troy University celebrated 125 years of service to students in Alabama, the United States and around the world, and we look forward with anticipation to reaching even greater heights this year,” Ward said. “This is the perfect time for our alumni to celebrate our treasured past while looking forward to a bright future.”

The cost of an Alumni Association membership is: $25 per person annually or $500 for lifetime single membership and $750 lifetime couple membership. Payment plans are available for lifetime memberships.

Huntingdon baseball earns 30th win of the season

Huntingdon baseball earns 30th win of the season

The Huntingdon baseball team scored four runs in the first three innings and got by LaGrange 4-3 on Saturday.
 
The win was the 30th of the season for the Hawks (30-9), marking the second straight 30-win season for Huntingdon. It was the second win over LaGrange (22-23) in a three-game series. Huntingdon won the first game 6-5 in 10 innings on Friday night. The two teams will wrap up their series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Keegan Lambeth, Grant Brown and Trey Smith combined for seven of the Hawks’ 10 hits on Saturday. Lambeth was 3-for-4 with a run scored, Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and two stolen bases and Brown was 2-for-4 with a run.
 
Joseph Odom singled to drive in Brown for the first run of the game and Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to score Caleb Astin and give the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
